Mein Schiff enters service

The first ship in newly established TUI Cruises fleet, Mein Schiff, has entered service following her ‘fast track’ conversion in Bremerhaven by Lloyd Werft. The former Celebrity Galaxy is the first vessel in a new brand aimed directly at the German market.  

Following a short inaugural cruise, the 1,914 passenger capacity Mein Schiff will sail in the Baltic for the 2009 summer season (May through October), offering two to 14-night sailing from ports such as Kiel and Hamburg, Germany, and Palma de Mallorca, Spain. The ship will then reposition to the Caribbean for the winter season (November 2009 through to April 2010), homeporting in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

During 2010 and 2011 Mein Schiff will sail itineraries in the Nordic Seas, reaching the Faeroe Islands and Iceland, as well as the eastern and western Mediterranean. Celebrity Galaxy to become TUI Cruises’ Mein Schiff

New German cruise line TUI cruises’ first ship, currently Celebrity’s Celebrity Galaxy, will be named Mein Schiff in Hamburg on 15 May. The name, which translates to My Ship in English, was chosen following a pole in the German celebrity magazine Bunte. Sphere: Related Content

Imtech to retrofit HVAC system on TUI Cruises first ship

Celebrity Cruises’ Galaxy, soon to become new German operator TUI Cruises’ first ship is to be retrofitted with a new HVAC systems by Holland’s Imtech during the ship’s refit at Germany’s Lloyd Werft in March.

All 974 passenger cabins aboard the former Celebrity vessel will be totally refitted, along with the ship’s spa and fitness centre, while new restaurants and cabins with balconies will also be fitted. Sphere: Related Content
