Leading French shipowner Louis Dreyfus Armateurs (LDA), owner of ferry operator LD Lines, has made a bid to take over troubled French Dover Strait ferry operator SeaFrance (see earlier story in this issue). LDA has submitted a proposal to SeaFrance’s owners, national rail operator SNCF, and is awaiting a reply.
LDA’s plans are to merge SeaFrance’s ferry operations into those of LD Lines, without the 650 job losses planned by SeaFrance, while retaining the SeaFrance brand name and creating a major French ferry force on the cross-channel routes.
