Somalia: Ship Operators in Contact with Hijackers

Last Thursday the German tanker MT Longchamp was hijacked by pirates in the Gulf of Aden. Over the weekend Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement, the company operating the ship, made contact with the pirates to discuss the vessel's release. It is believed the pirates have asked for $6 million to let the ship and her crew go. The Longchamp is carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
